Installation Issues and Activation Related Problems

Failure to read the following instructions can result in serious corruption of your program files!

During installation, the software will need to utilize certain resources that may already be in use by other applications. Such applications may include, but are not limited to, virus scanners, file management applications, and screen savers. In order to achieve an effective installation of our software and minimize technical support problems for our customers, IMSI/Design recommends that you set up your machine for a “clean install” using one of the following procedures.

Note: If you have already tried to install an IMSI/Design product and suspect a corrupt installation, please uninstall the application, set up your machine for a clean install, and re-install the product.

For customers using Windows Vista:

  • 1. Using the add or remove programs control panel remove all IMSI or IMSIDesign software.
  • 2. Delete all of these folders.
  •  
    • C:\ users\your user name\Application Data\ IMSI
    • C:\ users\your user name\Application Data\ IMSIDesign
    • C:\Program Files\IMSI
    • C:\Program Files\IMSIDesign
    •  
  • 3. Copy the Bin folder from your disk to the desktop
  • 4. Run setup.exe from the bin folder that you have copied to the desktop.

For customers using Windows XP:

  • 1. Using the add or remove programs control panel remove all IMSI or IMSIDesign software.
  • 2. Delete all of these folders.
  •  
    • C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\IMSIDesign
    • C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\IMSI
    • C:\Program Files\IMSI
    • C:\Program Files\IMSIDesign
    •  
  • 3. Clean the registry if you don’t have a registry cleaning utility, we recommend regseeker which can be downloaded from hoverdesk.net http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm 
  • 4. De-fragment your harddrive.
  • 5. Copy the Bin folder from your disk to the desktop
  • 6. Run setup.exe from the bin folder that you have copied to the desktop.

If you do not feel comfortable with steps 3 and 4 leave them out

For customers using Windows98:

  • 1. Run the Windows 98 Maintenance Wizard (Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Maintenance Wizard). If you have not already set up the Windows 98 Maintenance Wizard, please consult the Windows Help file.The Windows 98 Maintenance wizard settings must include:
  •  
    • Deleting Unnecessary Files
    • Running ScanDisk
    • Running Disk Defragmente
    •  
  • 2. Restart your computer.
  • 3. Press Ctr+Alt+Del. This will open the Close Program dialog.
  • 4. In the Close Program dialog, select each item except for Explorer and Systray and click [End Task]. (If you end task on a program that shuts your computer down, then leave that one running, in addition to Explorer and Systray.)
  • 5. Start the application installation.

For customers using Windows95:

  • 1. Use Windows Explorer, My Computer, or DOS to empty the C:\Windows\Temp folder (where C is the letter of your hard disk drive).
  • 2. Empty the Windows Recycle Bin.
  • 3. Run ScanDisk (Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Scan Disk). Choose the Thorough radio button. When Scan Disk is complete, close out of it.
  • 4. Run Disk Defragmenter (Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|Disk Defragmenter), even though it may indicate 0% fragmented.
  • 5. Restart your computer.
  • 6. Press Ctrl+&Alt+Del. This will open the Close Program dialog.
  • 7. In the Close Program dialog, select each item except for Explorer and Systray and click [End Task]. (If you end task on a program that shuts your computer down, then leave that one running, in addition to Explorer and Systray.)
  • 8. Start the application installation.

For customers using WindowsNT:

  • 1. Empty the Windows Recycle Bin.
  • 2. Restart your computer.
  • 3. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del. This will open the NT Security dialog.
  • 4. Click [Task Manager].
  • 5. Click the Applications tab.
  • 6. Select each item in the list and click [End Task].
  • 7. Start the application installation.
